Rochester accelerator pump which one?

    My jeep. Has developed the just off idle stumble, and after searching on here it seemed to be a common problem to have the accelerator pump go bad. I took off my air cleaner looked down the throat and am getting no streams. Just a slight trickle from the pump.

    My question for all those is which replacement size do I get?

    Do I need to buy a whole kit or is it possible to just get the parts? I have no complaints with the carb other Han this and it is working well. Got 17 mpg on our last outing which was a mix of hwy and forest service roads.

    I am sure either the newer fuel or my bad habit of pumping the gas when starting after a long time between driving has damaged my cup.

    Any advice from you that have fixed this?

    After re-reading your post I will have to say that jeep guys tend to modify their engines and carbs. If you don't have the tab on the carb for the number then you will have to measure the venturi bore to make sure. You should get two strong solid squirts of fuel when opening the throttle quickly. No stream means stumble.

    Ok got one ordered, just for fun I went out and looked again, and if i open the throttle quick I get two streams. But it's got to be really quick. If I move it slow, nothing. I'll put in the pump when it comes and report.

    Even fairly slow you should still get both streams (not strong) so when you do the pump make sure the small check ball seats down in it's channel and free to move up and down. (very important) When re-assembling make sure the light spring under the accel pump seats all the way down into the bottom groove. This is the only thing that keeps the ball from jumping completely out of it's intended channel.

    I got the accel pump today from quadrajetparts. I tore into the carb and this is what I found.

    The cup on the pump had really dried out and become brittle. I got it put back together, and I got two good streams even moving the throttle slow. I started it and the stumble is gone. :)

    I came in and my wife says " you smell like grease".:rofl:

    I would recommend getting the whole rebuild kit. Your in there anyway, and new gaskets would be nice.

    My my carb had a serial # stamped on the side. So I got the 21/32 garter style. Q1006b.

    Good job on the fix.

    I really need to rebuild my carb one of these days.
    Doesn't even have a check ball and stumbles just above idle IIRC.

    I'm going to order a kit from them. All I can find at parts stores and online are Omix junk.
