I have a 66 CJ5 with dana 27 front and dana 44 rear axles. I am replacing the leaf springs. When I took out the old springs I cut off the 'U' bolts and threw them away. I now notice that the front axle tube diameter is less than the rear and the spacing on the spring plates is less on the front than the rear. Also the front inner 'U' bolt looks like it has to fit over the outer end of the differential casing. Is there a one size fits all 'U' bolt that I should use or do I need different size 'U' bolts on the front and rear? Do the 'U' bolts have to fit tight around the axle tube? What is the correct size?

I don't remember the exact size, but I do believe you will need three of one size and a fourth that is bigger in front to over the edge of the differential case.

Look here for the sizes: http://www.jeepdoc.com/catalog/zproducts.asp?id=306

    And remember don't reuse U-bolts.
