I should have studied these pics before I bought it but well...I got this sending unit in the other day (ebay purchase) and even though the ad says it's fits the underseat tank,...well it doesn't. The bolt holes aren't close and there's no pick up tube. I was expecting a single pick up tube as opposed to the dual tubes one for pick up and one for return, but this one has none...

Someone said they'd used this type on theirs and that JCW sells the same kind. Am I supposed to install my own pick up tube with this or what?

You could install your own pickup, but I would be tempted to try to find one with a pick up. Is yours broke? Gauge Quit? I used a universal sender and gauge from NAPA, and adapted the sender to the original top plate/ pickup....

This is the stupid part I guess...mine works...so I really didn't need this one. It was just a new thing and I figured I ought to get a new one.

Actually, I shouldn't say mine works perfect cause when I fill up it'll register "FULL" but when it get's to about 1/2 a tank the tank registers 1/8". I stop to fill up and it only takes about 5 gallons.

    John,
Some of the early under seat tanks had the fuel feed from the bottom of the tank instead of the top. My '59 is like that with no return line. That's what mine looks like. That's probably what that fits. Nickmil.

Yeah, I guess I'll just stick with what I've got and send this one back...

Well...the seller won't let me return the part...he says the sending unit is as advertised and it'll fit...I said, I guess it'll fit my tank, but it won't replace the sending unit I have because the sending unit I have has a top feed fuel pick up...Oh well..

Is there a way for me to use this and maybe convert my tank so that I have a fuel line going to the bottom of the tank?

That'd work John, but you'll have to pull the tank and have a fitting soldered into the bottom of the tank. Then you'll have to put a hole in your floor to accomodate the fitting, reroute your fuel line to the new fitting, etc.

I'd leave yours the way it is IMHO. Jeep fuel guages are notoriously inaccurate anyway!

Maybe it's for a military tank? My M38a1 has a separate fuel pick up that bolts to the left of the sending unit. My sending unit looks like that one...At least the top does. I haven't removed it too see what the rest of it looks like.

That one is exactly like the sending unit currently in Lulu. Being a '71, I think she had the tank in the back originally, and someone moved it under the seat, and it appears that they used a very early tank.

I have a feed line in the bottom, and a return like on the top, right near the filler neck.

That's the same one as I have in my '66. Bottom feed with no return line. The fuel gauge seems to be a little more accurate now, but it still has it's moments.;)
