F134 won't run?

I've just gotten back to working in my cj after about 6 months if crazy busy-ness. It stopped running back in January and I'm just now getting a chance to look at it. Here's what I'm dealing with:

    -won't run
    -has spark
    -has fuel
    -has good compression

I never noticed this before, but there's a very quiet clicking that goes in time with the engine when I turn it over. I thought it may be ignition related, but I'm not seeing any arcing or sparks. So I don't think it's electrical like I first did. What should I check next? Out if desperation, I even shot some starting fluid in there, but no dice.

The carb was rebuilt last summer and works great so I don't think it's a carb issue either.

I see spark, fuel and compression. How about the timing?

What did it act like when it "stopped running?"
What does "has fuel" mean? Do you see gas squirt in the carb throat when you pump the accelerator?

If there is fuel mix reaching the intake, in absence of any other clues, I'd start with a basic but methodical tune-up to factory specs. Starting with plugs, points, and timing. Maybe new cap, rotor, and condenser - always cheap insurance...

Is it cranking okay? Don't have a weak battery or anything like that? If not, make sure your plug wires are plugged into the right cylinders and are in good repair (don't forget the wire connecting the ignition coil to the distributor cap,) your breaker point gap is properly adjusted, your cap and rotor are in good repair, and your timing is properly set.

Also, do you have a 6V or a 12V ignition coil? If it's a 6V coil, is the wire to the external resistor in good shape and, most importantly, does the resistor have a measurable resistance?

Pull the dist cap off and make sure the rotor turns when you crank it over.
May have sheared the tang off the bottom of the dist shaft........
