I'm new to the cj5 world and learning quickly with the help of people here.
My question is, is this an original 69 cj5 air cleaner?
If so, what is the extra male plug on the air cleaner (that isn't currently being used)?
On the opposite side of engine I have a properly working PCV valve that plugs into base of carb. On driver side, which you can see I have air cleaner connected to valve cover. What is the extra one for? Smog pump on later vehicle?
I'm going to pull intake and valve covers to repaint and fix gasket leaks, so if I don't need that (extra male plug on air cleaner) it's a good time to cover it with a custom patch and paint.
    Thanks!

I have never seen a filter housing like that before. Doesn't look like the ones that came on the 225.
Sure one of the other members can help you.

Late 70 AFAIK they became an option, but with Jeeps there's no such thing as sure.

The oil bath filter is what you usually see - different from the OP's filter. Oil bath is this -

There may have been a paper element filter in the later years (ie 70-71), or it could be an air cleaner from a passenger car engine, ie a 231.

The PCV needs clean, fresh air from the air cleaner (big hose to the valve cover) which then goes through the crankcase and out the PCV valve into the combustion air. The other big fitting ... no idea. Maybe somebody here with a '70 or '71 has the newer style filter which you can compare to.

    Tim,
How does the larger tube on driver side (valve cover to air cleaner) help PCV valve?
basically it's doing the same thing as the PCV minus the check, right ?

The larger is the input of filtered, pre-carb air into the crankcase and the PCV valve is the exit of that plus blow-by fumes into the carb, I believe.

Yes. PCV is a circuit - engine vacuum pulls the crankcase vapors out of the crankcase through the PCV valve along with clean, filtered air that comes from the air cleaner. The air cleaner connection is an air inlet for filtered air. Some cars have a separate filter on the crankcase air inlet, some use air from the air cleaner.
