So per everyones advise I've got F134 started, got it to run, about to get it to stop (just waiting on some master cylinder parts from the rude guy in Yuma Arizona that I won't be dong business with anymore), now I'm starting on the steering. The obvious issues are; passenger side tie rod end rubs on the top of the leaf spring? Tire rubs on the steering damper end? Of course once I get the master cylinder parts and get it on the road I'll know more. Any insight as to why the steering knuckle has two spots for a tie rod end on the right side? Is this original?
    Link to some photos below.

    Thanks!!

    Jim

The steering damper is a PO (previous owner) add-on. If it rubs it's because it's not supposed to be there. Likely was added as a band-aid solution to try and cure steering wobble or wander. It's not needed if the suspension is in good repair.

The two-hole right knuckle is from a Wagoneer. The original knuckle would have had a single hole. A PO must have used it for a repair. The two-hole knuckle is considered an upgrade, because then you can use 1-piece tie rods and get rid of the funny end with a hole in it. The single tie rod between the knuckles is another PO mod - normally you'd have two shorter tie rods from the bell crank to each knuckle.

Typically, for a 1-piece tie rod (an upgrade) you'd either use the two-hole knuckle, OR you'd use the funny tie rod end with an extra hole in it. You don't need both.

Looks to me like the top leaf of the front spring pack is broken, and that's why it's rubbing on the tie rod.

Interesting, so should I go with a one piece tie rod from left knuckle to the second hole on the two hole knuckle and another shorter tie rod from the bell crank to the first hole on the knuckle? Or do I just go with the two piece from bell crank to each knuckle as you mentioned?

You are correct Tim, I have a broken spring on the right spring pack and also on the left side as well (not shown). So before I even get to the steering box, I'm replacing both spring packs and all tie rods, removing a damper.

Sounds like fun (expensive of course), I now need to begin educating myself on where and what to purchase and of course how being I'm in uncharted waters with this one.

Thanks for the info, all and any help is greatly appreciated.

    Jim

Steering damper is a common add-on to suppress (not cure) "Death Wobble" in the steering system. Do a search here.

The real cure is to tighten everything up, including king-pins, and alignment.

Well, I would not go back to the two tie rods. They are known to cause bump steer - which I believe would be more of an issue with larger tires - and the one-piece tie rod is a very common upgrade. First I'd see if the existing setup clears the spring with new springs in place. If you are going to replace the tie rods, you may as well go with the better setup, using the two-hole knuckle and eliminating the tie rod end with a hole in it (Jeepster part? Not sure.)

I've been around these Jeeps a lot, but I've never owned one of your vintage. Some of the owners here can share their experience with this topic, and their input will be more valuable than mine.

Well I took your advise (kinda) and bought a daily driver for some instant gratification. Not a YJ, but a '47 CJ2A, and lots of fun to drive.

Just waiting on some parts for our '67 project and the 10" brakes will be completely redone. Then on to the steering/suspension.

A coworker mentioned it while I was traveling on business in Minnesota, he had no idea the year though. Looking for a tub for my '67 I went to check it out. Traveling back to Ohio I couldn't get it out of my mind. Called with a $3,500 offer (after getting wifes blessing) which he accepted.

As a person who prides himself on embracing advanced technology, I'm frustrated with the fact I still can not figure how to embed or insert photos? Any tutorial links, because I cant find any?

Green rims on a red Jeep is not my cup of tea but it looks like a brand new 2A.
