I thought I would start this thread over here since its gonna take a little while to finish this project up and I know there are a lot of interesting threads about hardtops/halfcabs. I traded a bestop soft top with doors and hardware for what im pretty sure is a meyers half cab. It came in fairly good shape and had the doors and all glass intact. I had to do some searching but was able to find the hinges and the windshield frame gap pieces localy. My jeep was a military vehicle and apparently had a hardtop on it when in service. This made to fairly easy to make sure we had the right parts. Except the when it came to lining up the windshield frame. It had been hit with the hood at a fairly high rate of speed I would guess and kinked it up pretty bad. So a new frame is on the way. We already mocked up the doors and they seem perfect. The top we had mocked up off the jeep with the frame off as well. This weekend we set the cab on the body with the old frame back in place just to get an idea of what things will look like. We also had to take some measurements for the bulkhead (forgot to metion that was gone), a local machine shop is going to fab one up for me with ribs in it to match the ribs in the "bed". I also took advantage of the longer weekend to finally install an intake, exhaust manifold, and weber carb I bought off craigslist. My carter was beyound shot, been rebuilt twice since I have owned jeep. Everything went smooth with install and there was soooo much performance gain it wasnt even funny. For those with a keen eye youll notice no fuel filter with return, that was added after pics between fuel pump and reg. Hopefully im looking at putting some TJ flares on the rear as well as some metalcloak flares on the front if time and funds allow. Any advice from those who have taken on a halfcab/hardtop project before would be welcome as well as critisism or questions :p.

Is there any way of telling what vehicle a engine came in from the factoy? Had to install new water pump and picked one up for a 1974 cj 258 and it was too short so took old one back to store with me and they pulled casting numbers and said it was for a gremlin?? Got one for a gremlin and fight perfect. Maybe someone used this pump since they didnt have the fan shroud? Here's some pics of the casting number and the pump.

The Gremlin base engine was probably a 258. No reason why someone couldn't have swapped the entire motor.

[IMG][/IMG]Got some more pics of the top this weekend. He sould have the whole thing in prime today and tomorrow will be fabbing up bulkhead (only piece that was missing). I have asked him to try and make it appear origanal as possible. So hes been trying to leave all the little weld pulls and imperfections it left the factory with. I feel this is hard on him since he's into painting mostly hotrod stuff lol.[IMG][/IMG]

I also helped build my first AMC motor this weekend. A friend of mine is putting a fairly well built 360 in his 79 cj5 and me and another friend (pictured) helped him get it all together saturday. Its going to be a beast!

Im going to need some gaskets pretty quick looks like. If anyone knows what kind of gaskets these doors came factory with I could use some info. Also if anyone knows if there was a gasket on the windshield frame and between the tub and top?

Anyone any good with these AMC codes?? Had to get third starter in a year today so I feel like it's wrong starter. I looked up these codes again and from what I can tell it looks like a 1967 199ci??

Well it took all day saturday but we got the cab on and now its at the glass shop getting a new windshield seeing as the old one would not fit.
Got the jeep ready[IMG][/IMG]
Factory olive drab on the old frame[IMG][/IMG]
Had to drill old hinge bolts out[IMG][/IMG]
Installing wipers and such on new frame[IMG][/IMG]
Got it set on. This was harder than we thought as we test fit it with old warped windshield frame. Also the cab was somewhat out of square probably from setting off of a vehicle for so long before I bought it.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
We did lots of measuring and "eyeballing" and made our marks and used nutserts in the frame to run hardware into[IMG][/IMG]
Used the doors to square up the cab and mark holes for back flanges.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
Heres what she looks like as of now. Glass should be in by tomorrow.[IMG][/IMG]
The bulkhead is back from the metal shop and should be painted so that will go in soon. Also the doors are painted but the hinges and small parts still need done and I have to buy the window tracks. One of the hardest parts was getting this thing down over the tub without scratching the tub. As you can see in the last pic it didnt go so well. So I was going to monster line the inside of the bed anyway so now I think ill do the upper lip all the way around the outside as well. This should take care of the scratches and also cover up the holes where the buttons for the soft top are. Ill post some more pics when I get some glass and from Jeepfest which will be next weekend.
