You mean like the temp spare used on modern cars? I suppose it would be possible to mount one on a stock CJ narrow wheel, but I sure wouldn't want to drive a CJ with one of those on it...

If you are talking about a smaller diameter tire don't do it. Just narrow with the same basic diameter would be no issue.

It would likely work the same as a mini spare in a car if only in 4x2 and an open rear diff. If you have an auto locker in the back, you will likely have some issues, some big issues, at which point you have to ask is it really worth it? You may be better off just packing a good tire repair kit and OBA.

    And leave the spare home.

On Board Air = a compressor powered by the engine. With a plug kit, you can patch and reinflate a tire on the trail.

The wheels must have the same diameter (on my Audi quattro) if not a problem can come.
My spare tire is a "combat" rim but all my tires have the same size.
I fixed the spare tire on the side instead than on the tailgate because it is easier to use the tailgate.

I did not enter in contact with anything but it can be possible.

You can also have some repair equipment, there are a product to fix inside the holes when they are not too big, it is sold by 10, and then you inflate with a foam bomb, and if you have air chambers you change it after taking off the nail, like on a bicycle.
You need strong tools to mode the tire off (= combat rims).

You need also good protections:p to take off/on a tire with tools, because sometimes they jump in the face, or crush fingers!

Yep, but a lot of other OBA options other than engine driven but personally, think those are the best option if you want to use it for airing down tires. A lot faster than the electrics (at least the ones I have been around) and also enough air to run air tools. An electric compressor or even an air tank would more than suffice, especially if only dealing with one tire (hopefully). A lot of places sell the repair kits, mine is from Gempler's.

I did get extra 4" plugs for smaller tires for this kit but you could just trim the longer ones.

I do use the sealant in my ATV tires. We have a very ample supply of Columbia Hawthorn and those thorns go right through ATV tires and occasionally even a normal car tire. I don't like it in on-road tires as it's a mess when it comes to changing them but it beats dismounting ATV tires on a weekly basis.

Also if you do hardcore wheeling an inner tube is always a good idea to carry. I have a plug kit with tons of plugs, on board air and extra valve stems on top of the 32x10.5x15 spare.

Not to mention the fix a flat stuff is dangerous as the propellant is flammable/explosive. It also eventually turns into liquid when it separates, leaves behind clumps of goo that plays havoc with balance, destroys TPMS sensors in modern cars, and is corrosive to the wheels.
There are sealants that are not this nasty that is intended for long term use. Just don't use fix-a-flat for it.
