1974 Steering gear box

I am using a power steering gear box from a 1974 cj5 in my 1959 cj5 project. I don't know if I am counting the shaft splines wrong and measuring the shaft diamater wrong, but I am not sure which "U" joint to use to mate this gear box to a DD shaft. I count 31 splines (which no one seems to have heard of) and measure the diameter to be 13/16" as measured around the round part of the gear box shaft (also, no one seems to have heard of this diameter). Now, if I count the valleys between the spline ribs, the count is 30, and if I measure the shaft at the flat part, the diameter is 3/4". Is this the correct location to measure? I looked at Morris and a few others and found the OEM couppler. Problem is that although I am sure the spline count would match, I have no idea what the other side of this bell like couppler looks like, and if I could connect a 3/4" or even 1" DD shaft. Any ideas?

3 bolt mount or 4 bolt mount? I suspect you have a 3 bolt mount and the spline count would be either 3/4"x30..........or 3/4"x36. The Heavy duty box with a 4-bolt mount and the large 6 & 7 cast into the bottom of the housing has a 13/16"x36 spline.

Call these guys..........they will help you:

The box has 4 bolts, but does not have 36 splines. Is it possible this spline count is a Jeep only part? Maybe there is no aftermarket U joint that will fit it.

If it came off of a Jeep..........should be a Saginaw Steering gear.........look under the box just forward of the bell end ...........is there a large 67 cast in the box? If not, Could be a series 700 gear which would have used the 3/4"x30 spline.......get some numbers off of it and call Borgeson...............or post some pictures so we all can see.

OThanks tarry99, I think I see the problem. I went to the Borgeson site and found some good pictures of some connectors. The shaft is definitely 13/16", but because of the flat spot on it, it only has 30 splines. If I extrapolate the missing splines allowing for the flat spot, I believe count would be 36, and that should work. I'll order one and try it out.
