Well, it has been a LONG process, to manage to resolve just a few little problems, but The Beast is finally running! My son had it out in the woods last night in the snow and water, four wheeling in the dark and said it was great.

Where do I start? A binding clutch cable, lead to a new one, that didn't fix the problem, so the tranny came out so I could check the clutch. That lead to another clutch cable and a new throwout bearing and throwout arm. While the transmission was out, I screwed up the shifter assembly and had to tear it apart and get it working again. That also lead to an improperly assembled transmission, that went in, wouldn't shift and had to come back out. Also brought about a major leak in the rear transfercase seal, that required it to come back out. Tried to find another tranny and failed, so I did my homework and properly assembled the one I had...finally.

Finally I got the transmission properly assembled, and then we ran into engine problems, with timing and some other things. Finally got that sorted out with a carb rebuild. Got the engine running, but the chief mechanic wanted new plugs and wires. Got them, and finally got a short ride, but the timing wasn't quite right. Chief Mechanic (my son who has a degree in Automotive Tech and works at the GM Tech Center in Flint) pronounced the jeep 'fixed' last night, and said it was impossible to get stuck in the mud and snow of our woods.

So, all I need to do is reinstall the air filter, install the boots for the shifter and transfer case sticks, fix the drivers door latch, finish installing the snow blade, change a wiper motor, clean up the underdash wiring, install the flood lights for the snow blade, hook up the winch to the battery and run the control inside to raise and lower the blade, and I finally have a working jeep that I can use to plow snow. Oh, and I should add a rear bumper for when I back into something while plowing so I don't break the tail lights.

Whoopee! I finally have a jeep to drive!!!!

For Sale, one 1966 Jeep CJ-5, All fiberglass body, hardtop and doors, 6' snow blade, new winch, front bumper push bar, just gone through the tranny and clutch, sound frame, 225V6, runs good. $3200/offer...

What do you charge per hour? Many of us would like to have you help us wrench on our jeeps. Seems like you got it down to a fine art.

Good job, I would hazard a guess here and say that you have some major experience with turning wrenches. Not many of us has dropped a T-case and tranny in one day to fix a leak, or a shift problem.

    Jon,

Glad I could provide some info on the cable modem. As for Florida, we have found a place to set up, in Okeechobee. We are waiting to see if we can get a Business License for the property from the city fathers. The fellow who is leasing us the space is working on it, and we should know is another week or two.

Can't see taking the Jeep down there, as It's all rigged for the snow blade and we'll be living in an RV park for the next couple years. We'll have issue enough finding parking for the car and the truck in most places, to add a third vehicle wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Plan is, to finish getting it all rigged this weekend, and put it at the end of the driveway for NEXT weekend, as Frankenmuth is having their Snowfest and 200,000 people will be in town, 80% of them will drive past my driveway at least twice.

    Thanks Maxx,

Actually I should point out that I picked up the Jeep in the Summer, and have had it on jackstands for nearly six months! The major wrench turner here is my son Jeremy, who works at the GM Technical Center in Flint and spent several years as a line mechanic at the local Pontiac Dealer here in town after he graduated from college.

It seems like it took FOREVER to get it all sorted out.....
