I have a bent rear Dana 44 axle on my 69 CJ-5 that I will be swapping with one from a 66 CJ-5 that has the same 4.88 gearing. Is there any difference between the two axles that I should be aware of? i.e. spline count, etc. My hope is to move the Powr-Lok from the 69' axle to the 66' axle.

As long as your '69 is still a two-piece tapered (which it is, if original) everything is completely interchangeable.

There are many here who will know without a doubt. But from what I know of them:

the 69 could well be a 30 spline flanged axle
the 66 would be a 19 spline tapered axle

So power lock won't fit up but the external dimensions (spring mounts etc,) will

Good time to go full floater on the 66 axle, then you could use the powerlock

'69 still used the two piece tapered axle from the factory, as I stated.

Jeep first began installing the flanged D44 onto the Renegade I's.
The earliest known Jeep D44 flanged were actually installed and dated September 1969.
Yet technically the Renegade I is consider to be a 1970 vintage because the new model year began around late August.

The 1969 and the 1966 axles are most likely identicle.
When swapping over the Powr Lok be very careful to record thicknesses of all shim packs.

I was only referring to a late 69 (70 model year), but had forgotten what OT said that it was only with the Renegade, not with all 5s.
