I'm in the process of installing a new windshield on my 74. The parts catalog calls for a 2 piece gasket set, (windshield gasket and filler gasket). My thinking is the filler goes on the frame flange and locks into the windshield gasket.

When I removed the glass there wasn't a filler gasket. The slightly tinted glass tells me the windshield has been replaced at least once and I'm assuming by a professional glass company. I'm guessing by the gasket's dry rot the windshield has been installed without issues for over 10 years.

My questions, do I need the filler gasket? Would the filler gasket add hassle to an otherwise straight forward job? I was planning to use weed wacker line over rope, any recommendations?

There are two types of gasket, the self locking type where that has a lip that gets tucked in after the gasket is put on, and then the two piece that has a rope gasket that gets installed last to lock in the window. Your supplier will have one or the other.

I just pickup of the gaskets, a 2 piece. I can now see there isn't a need for a rope/weed wacker line to help install it like you would for the self locking gasket. The previous installer used the self locking gasket. Thanks

When I picked up my glass they gave me a plastic tool to install the gaskets. The install went smooth.
