Does a flywheel for a late model CJ5 with a 258 engine work on my 73 CJ5?

I need confirmation that a flywheel for a late model CJ5 with a 258 engine will work with my 73 CJ5.

I ordered a LUK flywheel model # LFW192 for my 73 CJ5. I am double guessing myself if the flywheel will work since it wasn’t listed for my model year. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work since it’s the same engine.

    Can anyone confirm?

    Thanks

I would imagine different part numbers indicates definite differences. Maybe weight or ring gears are different.

My book starts in '74, and says that the 74-79 sixes have the same flywheel, 3212623. The 1980 is different, 3236257.

Just off the top of my head, I'd say they are the same - the sixes are internally balanced, so they can't be balanced differently I believe the crank bolt pattern is the same - the stroker guys put the 4.0L flywheel on the 258 crank to get retain the CPS trigger.

In fact, here's a thread about it - http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1933 - apparently there is a change in the location of the ring gear, and the year of starter has to match the year of the flywheel.

Thanks for the information! I am returning the LUK I bought since it's listed for an 82 CJ5. Just ordered a Omix-Ada model #1691203 listed under 73 CJ5. The problem is that it is over double the cost :-( oh well.

    Thanks again!

I used the '72 232 flywheel on an '83 258 when I rebuilt mine. But I did use the '72 starter. I never had a problem with it.
