I was doing some research on the spline counts for the 73 cj5, and I believe that the box side is 3/4" by 36 splines. What I'm not sure about is the shaft coming coming out of the colum I think it's the same as well but I'm not 100% certain. Can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance.

There's an upper steering column shaft that is the same for all model 80s in this range. Both the lower column shaft (after the u-joint) and the bell coupler are different, power to manual. The U-joint is the same, manual or power. Don't know what the actual spline count is offhand.

If you have manual Saginaw the spline count and diameter is the same at either end of the steering intermediate shaft.

    Column & shaftt should be 3/4 x 36 spline.
The Saginaw box I have (unknown vintage) is 3/4 x 30 spline.
