    I believe, but not sure, that the standard BOP bell housing is;

    1. Aluminum

    2. Fits over the Jeep (heavier) fly wheel

    3. I directly compatible with the SM 420 transmission

    Am I correct? I am planning on buying a 225 V6 from a late 60's Commando to mate with am SM 420 and put into a late 2A or 3A frame with a '48 Tub that I have waiting for a home.

    Thanks for your help.

    Don't think the Jeep flywheel is any different from the Buick car flywheel.

    Yes, it's a GM passenger car Buick-pattern bellhousing. I'm sure the trans pattern is right, but not sure if the bearing retainer OD is the same ... the Novak site would know, or someone here will.

    NB the '71 models have a unique 1-piece bellhousing, that bolts directly to the T14 - no adapter.

    the only problem I had when trying to use a BOP bell housing was it was too close to frame mounted master cylinder ,BOP has two starter bumps . but that was a 71 CJ with 225
    other that that it should work

    You may have to drill out the threads in the bottom holes as the 420 bolted in from the front. It is the right bolt pattern though. As mentioned above avoid the late 71 one piece that only fits a t14.

    Timgr --- It was my understanding that Jeep used a 49 lb. flywheel when they installed the 225 V6 in the CJs. Myth?

    Thanks all for the information. On the bottom bolts on the bell housing/transmission, doe it matter whether the thing is bolted from the inside of the bell housing - some mechanical reason? It would be easier to tap the bell housing, clean the threads out of the SM420 ears and bolt from the outside (rear), wouldn't it? Maybe the aluminum housing is not as likely to have the threads tear out?

    The engine is supposed to be ready shortly and My engine builder says we will get a lot of low end torque out of this engine. Thanks for your help!

    The Dauntless flywheel is @ #50 on average (seen some heavier, but not common). The physical size does not matter to the bell housing. A Buick bell has the double hump, the Dauntless does not (both the adapter integrated and single setup). You have to watch the flange area for bolting the bell as they are aluminum and can crack or stress and then cause issues.
