Hello all, first time poster after greeting a great deal on a 67 cj5 with a freshly built 225. I've already gotten some great ideas on how to fix and customize my new wreck.
I just did a grommet mount 4" conversion and have some issues.

    1. First and foremost the original harness is a hacked pos and an Ez wiring mini20 kit is in the mail. It should be here next week and I'm hoping that it fixes multiple issues.

    2. The old rear blinkers worked before the swap and only one brake lit up. Now both rear blinkers still work with the thermal or an electric flasher unit, but now no brake lights work. The light switch on the dash/headlights/parking lights don't work so this might be a vague issue.

    3. Right now the motor is only hooked up to the battery. No alternator-PO cut the wires to the voltage regulator and to other places.

In my limited knowledge, it seems like I need to add a resistor to the rear lights? Do I add it to the ground?

    Thanks for your time.

Well I don't know what a grommet mount 4" conversion is but if your LED taillights worked before but not now then why would you want to add a resistor? The stop light power is routed through your turn sig switch for the rear stops. Are you using the original type light switch with the circuit breaker mounted on the back of it?

The rear tailights before we're just junk incandescent trailer lights the PO put on. I installed 4" round LED stop/tail/turn lights in it now. The previous lights weren't LEDs and they only partly worked. I am using the original blinker box on the column as well as the original light switch with the relay like you described.

I need to to setup a photobucket account to post pictures, sorry for not including pics.

And like I said, an entirely new harness may alleviate some of this. Thanks for your thoughts.

Yep a photobucket account (FREE) is a good thing because as you know, a pic is worth 5 pages of print. You will probably have several questions after installing that EZ wire and maybe save your self some re-do by waiting untill you get through installing your new wiring.

It is also good to fill out your profile so we know where you are as we may have a member down the street that may be able to help. Be sure to list all about your jeep like what is not stock so we won't have to guess. I take it you have the stock Motorola Alt with external regulator? That question is a good example.

Just search led turn signals and you will be able to find how to make them work. Most led lights will not work with an original flasher unit. The taillights should not be a problem, just the turn signals.

Keep in mind that unlike stock incandescent lamps, LEDs are polarized. That is, you need to observe negative and positive.

You need to read up on LED lighting for vehicles. It is not the same thing as the original lighting was. You cannot just toss LED lights into the mix and expect them to work.
