today i actually got the critter's head lights (hi&lo), signals, tail lights, hazard flashers and brake lights all connected through the 87 cherokee steering column (not the headlights tho). and they finally ALL WORK IN THE RIGHT ORDER! :D and NO flames!!!! (yet)

would it be advisable to fuse the brake lights? if so, 15amp?

I'd fuse 'em - lots of places for shorts between the pedal and lights. I've had my wires get loose and burn through on the exhaust before.

Yep, it's a good idea. 15 amp would be plenty.

thanks all. fusing is done. all my lights are now fine except the backup lights. i think it might be a bad switch on the trans. i'll check that later.

    R) been there a couple of times 30 years ago with my 47 2a in the sandia mtns.

column fits pretty well esp. considering i didn't want to cut away any dash. i ground off the original welded on nuts that the mount from the cherokee used. decided to keep the ignition and key on the dash since i like that from the original cj's. I'll probably futz with it and add a brace between the firewall and the dash like the 70 dj's had. i will also add another column split ring collar on the engine side of the firewall to hold the column more firmly to the floor.
put new points, plugs and condenser in tonite as well. but fuel isn't getting to the carb so i'll figure that out (it was running fine before i tore into the wiring and the steering but it's got a spark and it starts to catch when i pour a little fuel into the carb throat.)

i get some pics tonite or tomorrow if you still want em. you saw the mount i made earlier?

all in all i like it. course, i still have to see how it drives and i can't do that until i can save for borgeson intermediate shaft and perhaps some tierods from herm. for the time being i'm just sitting it the critter making engine sounds and low range 4wd noises. (while my wife just smiles and and shakes her head sadly) :D

    i love it!! R)

i miss those days with my kids. although the 20 and the 24 year old would probably do it still just to humor me or to embarras their mom.

my nephew used to sit in my father in law's car with me when we got bored with "grown-ups talk" he was 2 or 3 and stood up on the seat grabbed the steering wheel and shouted "JESUS CHRIST YOU IDIOT!!!!" right when some neighbors were walking by. he definitely got his road manners from his father lol. i thought i was gonna cramp up from laughing so hard. he's 25 now. and we still talk about it.

enjoy your kids. each stage is fun.

    I love my sons.
One will be 3 in April, the other is 1 week old. ;)
Took the #1 son riding in the YJ today. He was laughing most of the time.
The oldest has already claimed the 5 as his. :D

They (the Huskies) will lay down and let Ian crawl alll over them. They have been very good with him. Very gentle and somewhat calm. They do love to try to lick his face though. He used to get upset but now he laughs about it.
They have not seen Liam yet.
They just like to be loved on more than rough housed with. Big old sissy lapdogs. :D
