I have 2 questions that both tie into recent threads.

    1) Why is my oil pressure so high?
    2) How is it that my PCV system doesn't seem to be working?

My oil pressure never registers below 35 PSI and generally holds between ~35~40 psi under all driving conditions regardless of the viscosity of the oil being used, and I've used everything from 5W30 to 15W40.

My PCV valve is new, seals tightly into the valve cover, rattles freely when shaken, and the hose is unobstructed and connects to a port on the underside of the air cleaner. When I disconnect the PCV valve from the valve cover and hold my finger against the bottom of the valve I don't feel any vacuum. The opposite valve cover has a screen type breather in it. If I disconnect the other end of the hose, where it attaches to the air cleaner, and hold my finger on the port, I feel no suction. Plugging the system anywhere along the line makes no difference in engine idle speed. This was done at idle with the engine at operating temperature. Should the vacuum be strong enough to feel or hear?

My motor leaks like mad and fresh oil doesn't take long to become black. It seems like the pressure and contaminants are building up and causing dirty oil and leaking past the seals. If the breather is clean and my PCV valve/hose are OK, why is there no vacuum? And should I be worried about my oil pressure?

    Dauntless V6 by the way...thanks.

Your PCV hose should be connected directly to a manifold vacuum source. No mani vacuum, no suckie on the valve.

Checked your gauge and sender? Compare to a second one?

You state ~35 ~40 psi under driving conditions.. What is it at idle when the engine is hot?

And check to see if you have your pcv connected to manifold and not to a ported connection on the carburetor. The hose to the vacuum assist for the brakes with a T in it would be a good source, because that has vacuum the whole time the engine is running.

NOT a good place to hook up the pcv valve. It can reduce the vacuum to the booster (if the vehicle is so equipped) enough to keep the power booster from working correctly. I've seen it lots of times. The booster should have a dedicated vacuum hose with NOTHING ELSE connected to it.

Do you have the stock 2 bbl carb?
If so, the PCV valve hose would connect to the base of the carb, at the rear.
The port could be plugged up by carbon, sludge, hard caked deposits, etc.
Remove the hose and try sticking a wire or probe into the port and wiggle around, use carb cleaner etc.
If still no vacuum from the port, then remove the carb to remove deposits, unplug and clean the port.

You guys are awesome! I removed one of the plugs from the intake manifold and replaced it with a brass 1/8" pipe thread fitting with a 3/8" barbed connector on it, ran a new hose and now my PCV valve has very strong vacuum! Thanks!!

Now, on to the oil pressure issue...sounds like the first thing to do is hook up another gauge...

So my Jeep is leak free now!!:) But since I routed the PCV valve directly to one of the runners on the intake, should I be concerned about oily mist eventually fouling that plug? I know it should be routed to the port at the bottom of the carb, but a previous owner has that plugged up. Should I repair that and move the hose to the bottom of the carb? Would that help distribute any oily mist reentering the air stream, or am I overthinking this?

First post here. I'd worry more about that cylinder running lean and possibly burning a valve. Run it like that for a while the check your spark plugs. If the one corresponding to the vacuum port is whiter than the other ones, it may be too lean. It's best to run it as close to the carb as possible.

Welcome Flattyfreek and thanks for the advice--what you say makes sense. I'll fix the port and reroute it to the base of the carb as soon as I can. Thanks too Walt, hope you're feeling well.
