I purchased a 1965 CJ5 with a v6, the casting number and stamp code match it to be origional along with the serial number on the frame and the title vin. It has a solid body in origional shape. The previous owner put an even fire hei distributor and even fire edelbrock intake manifold with an edelbrock 4 barrel carb on it but unfortunately blew the engine; broke 3 rods. There was a piece of the cam in the oil pan along with many other parts that should not be there. Anyway I purchased a complete used 67 v6 for a replacement that was sitting in the woods that turns over smoothly which will be the replacement. I just rebuilt the rochester 2 barrel to keep everything origional but found one of the studs to hold it down on the intake is broken, the two front are studs and the two rear are bolts. Do the studs screw out or are they pressed in? Also can the even fire hei distributor be converted to odd fire or do I need to purchase a new one, I would really like to keep the HEI. Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated as to the best options to get this thing running. Thanks

The conversion is very simple. Purchase a pick-up coil for the odd-fire and screw it in. No mods required. Replace cap with one for the odd-fire and your done.

The studs screw out for using all four bolts.

Your absolutely right. I forgot that I had to grind off three fingers (reluctors?) I have that on my comp somewhere. Will take a look and post if I can find it. Sorry about the brain fart.

Got your email request and sent the file via email. My file was in pdf form which is not valid for photobucket so that's the reason for the email.

I got the instructions for the conversion and purchased and received the parts I need for the conversion from even to odd but when I get to installing the distributor the new odd fire cap is not marked as to which terminal goes to which spark plug. I know the fireing order of the plugs but not the cap terminals.

The number one on the cap will be (looking down from top of cap) to the left of the outset socket where the ign wire plugs in.

So just to make sure. Do I look at it with the outset socket faceing up or down? First terminal clockwise or counter clockwise from the plug in receptacle. Thanks

Be sure the cap (when mounted) has the outset socket for ign pointing rearward at about 1 or 2 o'clock. The #1 plug wire plugs into the tower to the left of the outset. You must be sure your rotor is pointing to this tower #1 with the #1 piston on compression stroke.
