Hi-Lift Jack Mounting

    I've been investigating different methods of mounting my Hi-Lift Jack and was wondering what what method you used and how do you like it?

    So far I really liked the idea of using the hood hinge mount but I wouldn't be able to lay my windshield down so...

    I was going to mount behind roll bars. Still have to buy one though...

    I'm not sure if that would work though, I was thinking grade 8 bolts welded to the roll bar than wing nuts to hold the high-lift against back of seats. My reasoning is its out of elements and its bolted to roll bar so nothing to hit me in the head. Well I imagine you would have to put handle somewhere.

    do you have a roll bar ? don't put it on the hood they rattle too much , I bought 2 bungs from ORW they are for mounting a hilift ,they weld into the cage and the jack bolts to that . for like $60 . you could build it for way cheaper but it looks trick I can say ,I have only used my hi lift less than 6 times in almost 20 years. I'll look for a pic . it's mounted vertical in the bed and it clears the garage door by 1/4".

    You can separate the jack components - they may be a lot easier to stow in various places.

    The best way to mount it is to just leave it in the corner of the garage. In my 50 years+ of trail running, there has only been a single occasion where the use of a Hi-Lift would have actually been a benefit. I do have two of those jacks and use them regularly on the ranch but I will never be putting one on a Jeep. A winch and a good bottle jack are a far better solution 99% of the time.

    I think that may depend on the terrain. Here in the north-east, a bottle jack is no fun when you are in freezing mud and water up to the doors.

    A hi-lift can take the entire end of the jeep up far enough to 'fall' over onto solid ground. Priceless.

    I put mine behind the seats. Really not in the way - unless your running a back seat and it's out of the weather - even with the bikini top for the most part. cj/442 is right - they rattle allot. I've got most of the rattles silenced with strategically placed strips of inner tube.

    Get some ubolts and bolt it to the roll bar that way?

    I mounted mine ontop of my factory bumper and I have never heard a rattle coming from the jack. I drilled 2 holes in the top lip of my bumper and from the bottom I slid about a 6 inch bolt up through the bumper and tack welded it in place, then took a washer and about 3 inches above the bumper I welded that washer onto the bolt to give a elevated place for my hi lift to rest. then I slide the jack onto those bolts put one more washer and a wing nut and split washer to hold it down. I even drilled a hole in one of the bolts to put a padlock through it so my jack doesn't walk off.

    I really like how mine is mounted and I think it looks pretty good there too I think I bought the short hi lift about 48 inches if I remember. To fix rattles I bought hi lifts handle isolator for the handle and I removed the cotter pin holding in the base of jack and replaced it with a bolt and mine never rattles anymore.

    Mounted mine on the front of the factory bumper (it's a '74). Works fine so far but need to clean often when running muddy trails.

    I have a home-made rear tire carrier. The hi lift bolts to it, held on by 2 nylock wing nuts.

    When the tire is bolted on, it prevents the jack from rattling. A padlock on one of the studs protects both from thieves.

    I fabbed tabs to bolt a pc of square tubular steel to my rear bumper and then made removable end caps for it. The tower and handle for my hijack and the handle for my large come-a-long live inside it. The mechanism and base for the hijack go in the tool box under the pass seat. I put a pc of UHMW plastic in the bottom of the tubular steel so it's easy to slide the jack tower in and out.

    This system keeps the jack out of site and out of the way. It's a tight fit so it doesn't rattle. And keeps the weight down low. Those are the advantages.

    The disadvantage is that I could get stuck in such a way that I couldn't get the tower/handle out of either end of the square tubular steel. Usually only one side is buried in the mud too deep but you never know how badly you're going to get stuck before it happens. I carry a folding shovel in the tool box under the pass seat to dig the jack out if needed. Or just pull it out before diving into the deep end of a muddy trail or a deep river crossing.
