I have a '67 CJ5 and I have completed the disk brake conversion on the front. It has been torn apart for two years. One year of that is because of a bad car accident I was in. Without boring you with those details, I want to drive it again, and don't want to wait and change my Mastercylinder over to dual res, till I have all the parts and am ready to do it. What do I need to do to run the single res. that's in there now with the upgraded brakes?

you will need a residual pressure valve for front and rear. Some times it's built into master cylinder.

2lbs for disk and 10 lbs for drum.
    and possibly a proportioning valve.

I do not remember if a proportioning valve will do this. I don't think so.

other members will tell you for sure, if you do a search it should tell you what's needed to use disk with the single reservoir master cylinder

Running a single Old style MC with disc's? I'm sure some have tried and as Piffey mentioned the residual requirements for each are different and a Proportioning valve would also be needed.........but I guess you could install the residual in line if you wanted to. But the realty is the Disc's up front have a much larger requirement for fluid volume than the drums and that cylinder may not have the ability to support that............I really would just make the change. Herms or R&P make kits.

Sounds like, by the time you buy all the stuff needed to make the old one work, you will have spent more money than if you had just bought the right master cylinder. Spending good money after bad, as the phrase says. Not to mention the time and work involved. If you're going to do it eventually anyway, just do it now and not waste your efforts on the temporary set up. Just my .02.

A stock master cylinder works fine with disc drum or 4 wheel discs. I ran mine for 15-18 years with discs. But, as was said, if you need to spend money anyway now is the time to upgrade. Spend a little more upfront and have piece of mind that you have a much safer setup.
