Not that your chances are much better finding them but 60's vintage Mustang/Bronco seats used to be considered an acceptable substitute.

Are you anywhere near Seattle? I have two original seats that I'd let go for super cheap if anything.

I got a set of smittybuilt high backs that where used. I like them because I needed the high back support. but the factory seats felt a lot better.

Drivers side you have to redrill mount. Passenger side you either weld or fabricate a way to attache to passenger side.

the quality of the vinyl is questionable I got some tears at the seams. I don't know how old the seats are though so could be due to age.

I imagine the high back and low back are going to be same for mounting with smittybuilt

if I was to use low back seats, spend the extra on the factory seats. Then they fit right and look right.

Seems like there is a strong market for anyone who would produce good (affordable) kits to rebuild and recover factory seats. It's a big "hole" in the Early Jeep parts supply.

Been watching this thread, and since I have two new Bestop Seats in the basement for my build I am a little nervous about the fit. I did a mock up tonight, my tub is sitting on benches and I stuck the windshield on. Just for a FYI, the last time I drove a jeep was back in the early 80's, so I have no feel of what it should be like. I think is a important fact to this issue. I am about 5'-7" tall and weight about 155 lbs for reference purpose and good looking if I might say.

I installed the drivers seat, had to move it all the way forward in the seat mount so it would not hit the wheel well. I am concerned that in this position I might be to close to the pedals and steering wheel. I will sort this out this winter. The seat was hitting the wheel well at the top which is a issue that might be a easy fix.

With the seat installed in the seat mount, the back felt like it was too reclined, I like the back to be in a more up right position.

In the picture I had a measuring stick sitting on the cowl. When I had my back resting on the back of the seat and looking at the bottom flange of the metal in the windshield frame, I was seeing 15 inches.

Since the seat felt to reclined for me, I put shims under the rear mounts of the seat mount. The pink things

This is about 5/8" of shims. This moved the back of the seat to a more up right position, which felt better to me. In this position I was see 13 inches. Doing this moved the back of the seat away from the wheel well. I may be able to move the seat back to the next holes in the mount which will move me away from the pedals and steering wheel.

If I think I need to lower the seat I can cut the seat mount and take the rise out and re-weld it. I think this would lower the front of the seat about a inch which would be a big change in the site lines.

When doing this fit, it never felt like I was to tall in the seat. It seamed like I was looking though the middle of the windshield. This winter I will mock everything up and see how it looks, at this time I feel I will be OK.

In the parts manual ,I Think, they show spacers under the drivers seat which would raise it about a 1/2"

MD Juan is working on it.

Can't comment on price. I have no knowledge.

Would love to see pictures of the brackets you used to lower your seats. I have exactly the same problem in CJ2A.

I figured I'd drag this old thread up because I just bought & installed a new Smittybilt high back bucket #44911 that I put on slide rails on the drivers side & moved the garage pro low back to the passenger side...The driver side bolted up really nice & sits at a nice angle...no spacers...it also sits much lower than the garage pro did on the driver side...:p The seats are a different shade of grey, but I can live with that. The garage pro seat didn't/wouldn't bolt up to my existing holes so I had to drill two just so I could bolt up the two front holes to the front of the seat...the rear seat holes are not bolted up & won't be until I can find the time/inclination to cut/drill/weld for a more secure fit...the seat does open far enough to allow for access to the tool compartment, or for removal. The quality of the vinyl on the Smittybilt appears to be of better quality too...I'm quite happy with the new seat...

Disclaimer....my seat brackets were modified by one or more previous owners so fitment issues may vary...
