I have a 1971 AMC CJ5 that has a PTO that I think used to run a snow plow. Will it interchange with a 1959 Willys CJ5?

Do you have a Dana 18 Transfer case in the '71?

If so, you will need to change the gear that goes in the PTO port. I can't remember the name of the gear.

That's not the case with a pto. Only needs changed when swapping to another transfer case that requires a different input gear.
Technically that gear is the "transfer case input gear" but common called a bull gear or transmission output gear.
To the op, if both had an 18 transfer case and neither has an overdrive or other type pto, then yes, a pto is interchangeable between the two.

Even if the 71 did have an overdrive, it will fit. The PTO OD adapter is behind the OD so it shouldn't matter.

I agree, and I neglected to mention that (bad on me), but that is another kit that must be acquired (adapter, drive gear, etc) and the pto shaft must be lengthened as well so it's more than just a simple bolt up.

I can't say if it's the t18 for sure as it's being protected by Giant man eating tics and chiggers! But as soon as it frosts here I'm going to see. However, it does have the one stick shifter, if that helps. I'm sure hoping I can put it on a 59 model t90 with the t18 two stick transfer case!

Just for clarification your offset rear output transfer case should be a Dana or Spicer 18 (D-18). A T-18 is a Borg-Warner truck 4 speed that came stock in and is commonly swapped into Jeeps.
As long as you have a Dana 18 transfer case with nothing currently mounted to the pto port (where the cover on the back is held on with 5 bolts), it will bolt right up. Assuming the pto is not for a Wagon/Pickup as they are longer with a different "clocking".
In other words, if it's from another CJ with an 18 transfer case it will bolt right up. Also keep in mind the shifter. Jeep in it's infinite wisdom actually installed a pre-cut hole in the floor between the seats for a pto shifter to protrude. It's a flat plate, about 4"x4" ish square and held in place with 4 screws.
