New shovel mount

Got a shovel mount installed in the engine bay. The shovel extends and collapses. Fits perfectly.

The mount looks good, but is an aluminum avalanche shovel really any good for anything besides snow:? IMHO a short handle spade would be much more useful....

 

Scott, I actually started coming up with the idea when I saw your picture somewhere else on the forum.

Project71-5, touché, and I completely agree. I never go "wheeling" in the Jeep, however we do end up in snow. There's an E-Tool in the tool box just in case. If you have pictures of a mount, I am certainly interested. I want to do an axe somewhere next. I haul firewood with the Jeep in my 1947 Ben Hur trailer. So the chainsaw has to stay in back, but the floppy axe should go somewhere. Maybe just on a fender...?

 

A double bited axe will fit nicely along the left fender. I have had one there for more than 40 years. Maybe get a pic of that today. On my 3B, both the shovel and axe are mounted to the inside of the hood.

Well, I lied. It's on the right fender. Just consists of a pocket for one bit and a U for the handle. The hood keeps the handle in place when closed. My pocket is hung from the battery mount (V6) but it could easily come off the firewall.

Does not rattle. There is rubber in the "U" bracket and just some foam rubber in the bottom of the pocket-primarily to protect the bit edge. If you get the tapper right to match the axe head, you could even leave the bottom open and it would fit tight, like a Morse tapper drill bit.
