What ideas do you guys have. Seems my Steering Column may have the threads bunged up for the nut that holds down the steering wheel. Could be the nut. Anybody have the same problem ever?

The bet plan is to pull the shaft from the box & have it re threaded on a lathe.

Failing that you can try cleaning the threads up with a three cornered file- plan on taking an hour or two to do it right.

If the treads are really messed the shaft may not be salvageable.

What year are you dealing with?......................You need to determine whether or not the shaft has a problem or the nut?.............big difference when making that repair...........Pictures would be nice!

    OK it's a 69 with a 76 windshield? Pictures.......Please

    Year/model? Original Ross steering?

I would be inclined to replace parts rather than try and repair the shaft. Lots of discarded Ross steering setups out there.

If it has Ross Steering and has a V-6, the parts are the same as a M38A1 Jeep

You can get a file specifically made to repair threads, they are square and double ended----gives 8 different thread pitches, so you should be good. Check with a local machine shop, they may lend you one???

Here is one, that happens to be metric, but they are available in American also.

Its a v6 Jeep. I am going to try to file the threads. Wish I had some way to "cut" a new thread path.

I got a spare column sitting in my barn, and I'm like 10 minutes from you. Send me a PM.

x2 on the thread file. It's a good tool to have, mine has saved mybacon more than once.

Ok, my Columns threads are buged up. The play in the steering is VERY bad anyhow. I believe I am going to up grade with a different Column, Gear box etc. Any suggestions on a route I should go? Power steering? Mostly I am looking for a good source for Columns, gear box (pwer vs Man) and perhaps pumps. Any help is appreciated. Seems that their is so much stuff on the Saginaw I try reading it all and am left kind of dazed. I have no problem going to NAPA and getting a Box but can anyone make a suggestion? Thanks
