T14 bearing retainer seal GRRRRRRRR!

Anyone one else have issues with this thing? I remember this happening the first time I rebuilt this trans. Trashed it and had to buy another. Any tips on installing would be appreciated.

 

I use a flat seal installer. The flat base of a socket works well. I think I've damaged 1 or 2 in the last 50-100 transmissions this way.

Well that's my method too. I guess the seal Novak sends in their master rebuild kit is a cheap one. It happened last time I freshened this trans up and I bought a Timken and it went in fine. Doing the same this time.

 

Use one larger than the seal to start it and get it close to flush. Then finish it with a smaller socket. This sometimes helps.

I got the new seal this morning and same thing, no matter how I tried to work it in it would **** and I'd have to take it out and start over. So I went over to a buddie's place who does exhaust and found a piece to fit inside it. Worked like a charm.


Guess you can't say rock with a c here. Damn PC world, even invading my favorite forum.
