    Also, the saddle tanks were an aftermarket product back in the day. You can probably find them in an old Chuchua catalog.

    I had a '66 that was originally a diesel. The story I got was that it was one of a shipment destined for the copper mines in the UP of Michigan. I remember the dash plate with the starting instructions that you have a picture of still being on the dash when my dad first got the Jeep (I was 9). He later painted over that plate..:( The original owners were diesel freaks - but they wanted a longer wheelbase Jeep. They bought a Commando and swapped the Perkins over to that and it saw plow duty on the Lake Michigan shoreline for years. I spied it through a dusty cottage window but thats as close as I ever got.
