I'm looking for the part that screws into the oil pump cover that the filter screws to. Mine has some boogered threads where it looks like someone at some point gripped it with channel-locks. It makes my filter hard to screw off sometimes. I've googled it, but apparently I'm not calling it the right thing because I have turned up nothing. I've got my cover and oil pump gears removed because I was inspecting my oil pump. Thanks.

    Filter adapter or connector
232 258 304 360 401 should all be the same if you need to bone yard the part.
The 4.0s will be metric I believe.

Thanks, now I have found that part using the part number you gave me:
    http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/products/CONNECTOR/4440878/J3173226.html

And since I now know its called a connector, I've also found this:
    http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/products/JEEP/WRANGLER/CONNECTOR/4447373/33003538.html

Take a look at them, the descriptions, and the huge price difference.

Does the $45 one fit a 304? The $21 one says it fits a 360 and I know all amc v8s have the same design. I just want to be sure. Thanks.

Later 5.9Ls (360s) used a metric filter. You could use the later filter, but I expect the connector will not screw in to your oil filter adapter.

I would get a used one from a junk oil filter adapter. Try the WTB board on IFSJA http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=76 or Jake's http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=118815 - lots of dead 360s in Wagoneers.

Here's one on eBay with shipping included - http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-MOP...984-1986-Jeep-Wrangler-Wagoneer-/180767338209

Thanks. I saw that one on eBay. I'm going to check with the jeep dealer at lunch. If they don't have one in stock or if the price is way out of line, I'll just order that one on eBay if its still there.

I ordered the one on eBay. Dealer wanted $50 and they'd also have to order. Thanks for the info.
