Noticed recently that Sierra Blue was among the special colours (coded 999) that Kaiser offered. Renegade colors; plum (purple), orange, yellow and green were all talked about here before but never Sierra Blue. Has anyone seen an early CJ painted this colour from the factory? Curiously enough, jpflt2as CJ2a looks very close to it.

I see that now in the factory parts manual. I wonder why PPG lists it as a special color for '72?

I am (still) working on my dad's 71 CJ-5 Renegade I restoration... and I was wondering about the 999 paint colors... dad's is orange, but I see two colors of orange listed on the Renegade info page. Is one of them the ONLY R1 option and the R2 buyer could choose between the two or, one of the orange colors is R1 and one is R2. The paint on dads is badly oxidized, so it's kinda hard for me to tell... paint code 999 is not all that helpful! BTW the production date is Sept. 1970.

    thanks,
    mnemonic76

PS: Hi beeser, did you think I fell off the edge of the earth? (got married)

Hi back to you mnemonic766. Congrats on the marriage! You're excused for not getting back to us on your Renegade restoration. Sorry but I don't have an answer on the different shades of orange used on the R1/R2. I thought they were both the same until you mentioned it.

    Steve,
I did some digging around. P. Foster says there were two colors of orange used. J. Marski says Sierra Blue was available.

I can't confirm either, so I cited them, but they remain unconfirmed for me at least.

Interesting that I've only seen RIs with the 340 trim code. Any exceptions out there?

Camshafters - Is the black decal down the center of the hood original?

mnemonic76 - Does your RI have the same decal?

Camshafters - Just looked at your picture again. Looks like part of the Warn winch is poking through the grill. What is that?

Sorry so long to reply... Here's a link to the picture on my site that shows the paint/trim sticker

To answer the question about the black stripe down the middle of the hood... mine does not have the stripe... I thought that was a RII decal... jeez, this stuff is confusing sometimes!
