Beginners question: castle nut torque

    I just installed all new tie rods for steering on a 62 CJ5. If I thread the castle nuts down to where they're 'taught' then the cotter pin is barely through the castle slots. In one, the pin is actually above the entire nut.

    Am I drilling new cotter pin holes?

    Install a washer under the nut.
