Steve, as per our conversation, here's what my setup looks like. The long mount is what was on my jeep along with the plate. The round mount goes on a 4 banger t/c on the passenger side. Our setup would have a 4cylinder engine mount, mounted in the frame rail which mounts to the passenger side of the T/C.

I don't remember if this is original. If it is, it is pretty thrown together. Anyone?...

Notice I also have a nut between the cross member and the skid plate. This lowers the plate so it clears the bottom 1/2'' of the parking brake drum that sticks down. There are stories of that drum getting hit and causing all kinds of problems. Another engineering oversight...

:)MD..........did you put a cotter pin in that E-Brake arm yet?...........and usually the skid plate is below the drum, but they are close and get bent up the first rock you high center on. Not a lot of strength out there some guys build a heavier skid plate or add braces so it will not bend up.

I originally took that picture because I was having a problem with the brake arm angles. I got it from Herm and it just had the wrong angles bent (cast) into it to work. He swore up and down it was the correct one for a cj5, but a few guys on here determined it came off a Willys pickup or something. I got the correct one somewhere and it was bent the other way...fit and worked like a charm.

what is the mfd date of you cj5? I have a n Oct 69, 1970 cj5. it was original when I got it and I am the 3rd owner.
the mfg date may define what is original, AMC took over in Feb of 1970. The gas tank was moved to the rear and the front fenders got reflectors added on the wheel wells. Mine has neither of these.

the round rubber on your transmission mount is not original.
there is a mount on the passenger side that has a piece of bent metal bolted to the spot where the round mount went on older models.
this is tied to a single bolt post coming out of a square rubber mount that is attached to the frame channel with 2 bolts.
I will see if I can get pictures soon.

the ebrake cable should have a clamp on the cross member where the round mount goes.

Matt, have that same picture in my file on your jeep. The gold round mount to the left. There was not one on the jeep I have. The kid I bought it from said the jeep was a 1970, there was no title. If you added that mount, why. There is a hole in the bar that goes on the transmission I have. Steve
