    The book says 3/8"x24, 2-3/4" long, 2-1 1/2" long.

    I used 1/2" 's on tonk.

Also be sure you have a usable hat channel and baffle inside that fender.

it looks solid. the metal panel has been patched but the channel is still there...and looks and feels solid. i will probably make a backing plate for the other side anyway...to be safe.

I'm a bit confused on your post Howard. Are the holes with threads on the body for 3/8" - 24? Did you drill them out and use 1/2" bolts?

The four holes on Tonk weren't threaded, IIRC correctly the parts book shows bolts with nuts.

These mounts are very hard on the body. Many original tubs are torn/bent at this location. If the vibration fatigue didn't do it, a tree encounter certainly will.

There is a piece of wood/oak to maintain in position. There is a lot of vibrations so it is really important to make something strong inside.
I decided to have the spare on the side because it is easy to open the tailgate, and it has a vintage look.
I never had any problem but I have a side mirror on the right so it helps to avoid unwanted contacts. Until tomorrow?:worry:

I had a big hole in the side of the body where the side mount used to be. That carrier is now welded to the tail-gate. Some PO's should be shot with a tazer, know what i mean?

Howard - you're right. I think some paint vapors got to me  There are no threads on mine.

You could always take the mount and put it up front in front of the radiator/grill.
