Divorced T-case Into a C101

Anyone run a divorced t-case in their C101? D18/20 behind a 2wd auto trans? Thinking even if the rear driveshaft were to get a little short, with a divorced setup you could maybe lower the transfer case. Contemplating BOP 4spd auto/OD options.

 

Well, first off you'll never find a BOP overdrive trans so you'd need a Chev to Buick adapter. I know a lot of guys use the 700R trans but never heard of anybody using a divorced TC. I'd think by time you factor in the extra length of the 2WD 700 plus the TC you'd be running out of driveshaft. Although they did stuff an O/D unit on the back of some 400 equipped Jeepsters so it might not be out of the realm of possibilities.

 

Buick and Olds mid to late eighties land yachts had 4spd OD autos. So did the GN, and I'm sure others. They are common locally.

 

200r4. Might want to do some research on them. The dealers in the 80's and 90's were replacing them under warranty pretty frequently.

 

They got improved in the late '80s. We had a couple Chevy versions go past 200k without rebuild, and I have seen GNs at the track repeatedly doing sub-11 sec passes on them. GM tagged the trans with letter codes, and there are some GN and TA forums that have built a database of which letter codes received the improvements and which ones are junk. I agree they are certainly no 4L60e, but I'm not asking about the merit of the trans, just if anybody here has run a divorced setup in their C101 and what it did to their driveline angles.

 

No i have not. Can you get the parts to make one of these divorced? I have thought about doing something like this but it looks like it would not be that great a deal.

Not sure I understand your question. Talking about a 4wd Jeep. Output shaft of auto trans runs into front of a divorced t-case using a short jack shaft.
