I'm about to install a new timing cover, gaskets, HRC oil pump, etc from Bulltear when it arrives. Any tips? Does Autozone have the right harmonic balancer puller for rent? Does the distributor just pull out after removing the bolt at the base? Is there anything special I need to do to not get the engine out of timing?

Distributor just pull straight out after removing the retainer bolt. Be sure to mark where the distributor gear is in relation to the distributor body and cap, that'll help when you re-install.

AutoZone and Advance should both have the "rent-a-tool" for the balancer.

The only advice I could give is, don't rotate the engine after you pull the distributor...and be sure to mark the distributor.

So, I take it I should pull the distributor last after I pull the crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer, that way I don't rotate the engine when loosening and screw up the timing. Likewise, I'd reinstall the distributor before reinstalling the balancer and pulley?

Yep you have it correct. Mark the dist base and manifold. Pull the CS pulley. Lift the dist until the rotor stops turning and mark the dist housing where the rotor is pointing and then remove your housing. Just make sure the pulley is the last to install and you should be back where you started.
