I am looking to buy new spark plug wires but I can’t find locally one for my 73 cj5 with 258 engine. Would the wire for a 87 YJ work? It’s basically the same engine correct?

    Thanks!

Distributor cap is different on the YJ vs your CJ assuming you still have the points distributor. Any parts house worth anything should be able to get the correct wires for your engine. Having them in stock is a different matter. You could also buy some aftermarket cut-to-fit ignition wires. Just make sure they have the terminals for a points type distributor cap.

Might ask them if they have wires for a GM 250 or 292 inline 6 with points distributor. Should be very close as well if they won't get the correct ones.

I suggest you go to RockAuto.com and buy there. They have 19 different spark plug wire sets for that application - I'd choose the Standard silicone wires that are on close-out for $4.50.

Or try a different parts store. This is an easy application to find a wire set for. Your local parts store should have been able to get a custom-fit wire set for you in a day. Or sell you a cut-to-fit set immediately.

If you want a set for a 250 Chevy, try a 1970 G10 Chevy van with a 250 cid six cylinder engine. But I'd just get the right part - easy peasy.

Rockauto.com, all kinds of listings and part numbers your local parts place should be able to cross reference.
