I need to drill and tap (5 on 5 1/1) a set of integral drum and hub assemblies for my CDN M101 trailer. Any idea what it should cost at a machine shop? The few places that I called will only do the work on a time and material basis.

A good shop should be able to do it in about 1 1/2 -2 hours, if properly equipped!

Thanks Mcruff! Based on that estimate and labor cost out here, I'll just buy new.

    Steve,

What are you going to do with your old rims/tires?

Haven't decided yet John. I might want to keep them to possibly revert back to the original setup. Why, do you want to get an extra set for yourself? Some of the other M101 buyers might want to unload theirs. In fact, there's a guy up north of you that might do just that. Let me know and I'll give you his email address.

It looks like it's much cheaper and probably painless for me to just buy new drums with the correct bolt pattern. They are only about $100 and come with bearings, seals and grease caps.

Same here. Sounds cheap enough for the drums. I might do the same thing, plus get the electric brake setup.
BTW did you get your paperwork yet? Be nice to get this thing registered soon.

No paperwork yet but I emailed Michele again yesterday about it. Will let you know if I hear something.

Give the trailer a tow with your Jeep. You might find that electrics are unnecessary for such a light trailers.

I wasn't so concerned about empty weight as much as loaded weight with such a short wheelbase Jeep. Especially on mountain roads. Just a little added security. I'll price them first.

It's interesting that the trailer 10 brakes look more substantial than the CJ 10" brakes. Substantial in that they appear wider.
