I have a 1980 cj5, 6 cylinder , it has been overhauled and painted by the previous owner. First off I am not sure who is the mfg as I need a valve cover gasket. second, the power steering pump bracket does not have the typical sloted adjustment for belt tension , is this normal?.. Thanks for any help

    Hi Bob -

If this is a Jeep, then it has a Jeep engine. Unless it's been replaced with an engine from another car. Jeep was owned by American Motors Corporation in 1980, and all the Jeep engines were AMC engines. AMC designed and built its own engines. Is that what you are asking? The displacement of the inline 6 in 1980 is 258 cubic inches. So you need a valve cover gasket for a 1980 Jeep 258 six cylinder.

I suggest you buy the Factory Service Manual for your Jeep - it will tell you more about your Jeep and engine than we could ever cover here. http://thejeep.com/shop/TECH+MANUAL....html?osCsid=5da677a7b2ddeae46564f23ea8c3a28b Lots of places sell these manuals, not just Turner's. You want the FACTORY manual, not an aftermarket manual like Haynes or Chiltons.

The power steering belt tension is adjustable. Look at the back of the cast aluminum bracket for adjustment bolts in curved slots. They are there - look closer.

If it's a 6 cylinder and original, that's true. But the 1980 4 cylinder was the GM Iron Duke 151.
