Hi, while finally taking a look under my jeep I noticed that the brake lines have been well modified. They are all bent up and really in bad shape. My question is will the brake line kit from quadratec that says it will fit a 67-68 CJ5 fit my 1966 Tux? It seems like the 66 CJ5 is left out in alot of parts. Just wondering because it would save me some time getting pre bent than bending my own. Thanks for any information. :v6:

Try Walck's for pre bent brakelines if you don't want to make your own (and I don't blame you). I got mine for my '62 from him.

Can't think off the top of my head what the changes between the years would be there but it might be enough to cause headaches.

I bought a pre-bent kit for my '56. Total install time about an hour! The biggest consideration for you would be the front brake layout. Mine was stock Dana 25 w/9in. with "S" lines. I know there was a change to a different wheel cyl. with an angled fitting, not sure of when it starts. The complete kit is sooo easy, no tools to buy, no cutting ,flaring, remeasuring, funny loops 'cause you made it too long, recutting cause you made it too short. IMO the best way to go if your gonna replace it all. If you've got rust already, chances are they're gonna leak once you put a wrench on them.

Couldn't agree more. I've made them myself, in the past. FOr $150, I'll never bend them myself again... I'm using a kit from 'Classic Tube' on this '74 that I'm re-working. It's amazing how well everything fits. I expected them to be close, but to need some tweaking. Nope - they were dead on.

In the past I have always made my own brake lines (except for "S" lines). However, the next time I will buy the preformed lines.

There is a difference between brake lines. I have no idea what a 67 - 68 set of lines would be since the 67 lines are different from the 68 lines for sure.

Brake lines from '55 - '67 would be for the single master cylinder and '68 - '71 would be for the dual m/c.

In addition, the "S" lines changed to "J" lines (J is my term) about the time they went to 10 inch brakes. At some point they eliminated the S and J lines entirely and just used a flex hose.

Also, the number of flex hoses changed - or maybe it didn't. Perhaps I am thinking 3B vs cj5.

You'd be safe for your Tuxedo Park with buying a set of preformed lines for a single cylinder system as opposed to any particular year. You will probably have a problem with the "S" or "J" lines, but they are available individually from parts vendors, so it is no big deal if your kit does not have the S or J that you need.

That is because the up scale Tuxedo Park used 10 inch brakes when the 'normal' cj5's used 9 inch brakes, and those S and J lines are different.

Beyond that all the lines in the single system are common to each other.

    good luck -

I was dissatisfied with my stainless kit from In Line Tube. Ended up do quite abit of " tweaking" which sorta kills the idea of nicely formed prebent lines. Not real happy with their customer service dept. either. I forget exactly the part # of the kit I bought from them, but can check my records if you like. If I didn't burn their paperwork in anger. I used the kit though on my 66 Tux. Luckily, you don't really see much of the brake lines since I painted everything black after the install. Still p's me off when I look at it though.

Santa brought me a set of prebent stainless lines here a few weeks back. I have only installed one so far, it took a little adjustment to get it to line up correctly, but with the tub on the jeep and laying on my back, I don't immagine a set of home bent lines that would not take as much or more "adjustment" to get them in. .02 :coffee: Randy

    Mine came from Krage
