I have 2 T90 shifter towers. One is taller then the other. The taller one appears to be more heavy duty and has a thicker stick shifter. The shorter one has a boss on it for the mounting of a reverse light switch. The below picture is not of my actual shifter towers, but a photo I found on the internet comparing the 2 different towers. Anyone know anything about the differences? Is the taller one in fact stronger? Without consideration to the backup switch provision on the shorter tower, which one should I use?

actually they both use the same shift forks.
but the one on the left offers more leverage/throw.
less likely for the trans to "pop" out of gear with the longer lever
you could always drill/tap that tower for the b/u light switch
FWIW I use a longer version on mine; it was tapped for b/u switch

I understand your point about popping out of gear and leverage related to the shifter length, but I am not refering to the height of the actual shifter, but the height of the tower. the shifter on the tower pictured to the right (the shorter tower model) was obviously cut down. Look closely and you can see the tower height is different.

    okay
the one on the right is probably from a 2A, 3A, or 3B as they used a different height tower
the one on the left could be from early 230-OHC Wagoneer/Jeep trucks; they had a hump in the floorbaord

Anyone else come across these 2 different towers? Each tower came out of a T90 equipped cj5 with a 134 Fhead - i know that much. whether they were original to the jeeps they came from, i do not know.

Nobody else has come across these 2 towers? Anybody have any info on which one I should use. Like I said, the taller one is heavier and appears to be a lot beefier. anyone have any pros/cons to either style?

don't know what else to add here, don't think one is more HD than the other
they both use the same forks and shift rails
other than tower height and lever length, that's it
the shorter one, the lever can vibrate and rattle while driving
bolt one on and run it; if you don't like it, put the other on
drill and tap for the b/u switch if desire
    not that hard to change

Dont want to be labeled a post hijacker, but what is that little silver gizmo on the red transmission cover, that wraps around the cane shifter? Just curious.
