This was included in a bunch of parts I bought. Does anyone recognize it and what year do you think it came off of??

What is the trick to getting a large photo to post?

Doesn't look like a Tux rear License plate bracket.

    I'll have to agree!

It looks as though it would fit under the tail light on the left side...the small holes are the right spacing and the large slot would allow the wires etc to pass through. I'm wondering if it would have been used on the '55 CJ

Maybe the front license bracket for a Tux or Commando?

Different from what my '71 came with under rear light when new...

The factory part for the rear of a CJ is different.

You can eliminate a Jeepster/Commando front or rear. Something about that strikes me as not even being Jeep, looks kind of cheesy.

Are you sure it is even from a Jeep?

Well no, I'm not sure. It just happened to be in with a bunch of jeep parts. That is why I posted the picture. He had a set of original diamond pattern side steps and those are really all I was after, but I had to buy the lot to get them.

The spacing of the holes is right for it to fit under the jeep's tail lights..could easily be aftermarket...it is pretty sturdy, it's just a license plate bracket after all...

    nickmil In mothballs.

Here's a picture of the one that came on the Daughter's '70 when we got it. No proof it is stock but fits perfect. The tail lamp is not stock. Just a generic trailer light from FLAPS.

    Thanks Nick,

I'm not sure if I'll use this one or not...Right now the plate is fastened using the slots in the rear cross member...no reason to change it...

The PO of my JEEP put the license plate on hinges in the stock location, the only good thing he ever did. Has saved the plate more than once on the trail, about as good as the stock location gets.

OK so there is a reason to change the current hard mounting...what sort of hinges did your PO use, and are they spring loaded or does the plate just flap in the breeze?

Last night I was looking at the bracket I have, and holding it up the the tail light. The way it's designed it would block nearly all the light from the clear bottom lens so the plate would be in shadow. It's probably not a jeep part....

Still think it looks like the front bracket that was on my chrome Tux bumper.
