I have a 74 cj5 with the 304 v8 and an edlebrock 4brl 1406 carb. I am having some kind of issue with the carb not getting enough fuel i believe. I rebuilt the carb less than 100 miles ago but just started having the probkem recently. The jeep will run fine at idle but if i put my foot into the throttle it coughs and dies. It also stalls out when i try to drive at all unless i really gently let out the clutch ehile i have it at a fast idle. I can get it up to a fast idle if i slowly push my foot on the gas. I pulled the fuel line from the carbuerator once i had the jeep running and i am getting plenty of fuel from the new pump and through the new filter. Is there a regulator of sorts in the carb that could be blocked up? Should i rebuild the carb again? Or is there something else that i am just missing all together? I am learning more and more about the mechanics of my jeep daily bu ti am still very much a novice... (so feel free to talk to me like one) ;-)

sounds like its not set up properly.
When you rebuilt the carb, did you follow ALL the adjustment instructions from the rebuild kit in order?
Its probably getting too much fuel. That motor runs best with a two barrel

Is this with the engine warm or cold, is the choke kicking on? Just wondering since you mentioned the fast idle.
If that’s all working I would double check the float level.

sound your accelerator pump is shot or out of adjustment. you should get a strong stream of gas when you push on throttle.

x2, check the accelerator pump shot
The 1406 should work fine on your engine, at least for street use. I'm sure you'll need to jet it down for our elevation-follow the jet/metering rod chart that comes with the carb.
