Ok, Bubba's posts on his disc brake conversion, and the link to his website got me to thinking. How exactly does a 'reverse' Saginaw setup work?

I understand the idea behind putting the steering box back up behind the crossmember, but when you reverse the pitman arm, doesn't the box then turn the wheels the wrong way when you turn the wheel?

If I'm being stupid here, somebody say so and I'll sit down and shut up. :D

There is a 'reverse box' that makes it work correctly.

Exactly.. I got the box from a van which already has the pittman arm facing backwards, actually that's how that came to be.. I got the box planning a normal sagi swap at the end of the frame rail but soon realized I had goofed so rather than get another box I decided to see If I could get it to work behind the crossmember. Granted I made all new tie rods and all to get it to work but I guess Herm has a kit now.. It worked out good for me with the headers and all with the steering shaft.. the only down is you have to modify the front cross member some. I actually cut mine out and made a new one but it was not necessary, just did it cuz in my early mods I had welded some spacers into the bell crank to drop it and I did not feel like cleaning all that up...

The worm drive for the ball screw inside is cut with a left hand thread instead of a right hand thread.

It came from a late 70's or early 80's ford van.. it is the 4 bolt and i figgered that the steering on those old vans was pretty slow and powerful it would be great for a Jeep with large tires..
