Cool AKcj, did you just shorten up some big truck chains for your jeep? Never used chains on mine yet, looks like a going jeep. Here is my license plate on my spare tire rack.

Factory location. The window in the bottom of the taillight illuminates the plate. In my state (MA), a license plate light is required to pass inspection.

AFAIK the plate never bolted to the crossmember, but was always mounted to a license plate bracket that fits between the body and the taillight housing.

Mine is attached to the tire carrier and hinges up to allow access to the trailer plug wiring. It is held in the down position with a spring loaded latch. I ran it in the factory position for years and it was always a mess. I think the biggest problem with the current arrangement would be putting the trailer hitch into it, but then it rarely sees a trailer.

If your local cops dislike wheelers then the license plate light can give them an easy reason to pull you over. Always best to try to keep on the legal side of things.

Not a very good picture, but mine is mounted to the tub and a license plate light mounted to the rear cross member. Pretty well protected.

Same here in PA, where Shane will be.

I've seen a number of guys use Lite N Boltz here in PA to satisfy the requirement.

I like that idea! Too bad that I had already drilled into my diamond plate corner and mounted my light/bracket assy.

I anticipated a swing away tire carrier so I moved mine from it's stock location to the left corner.

    Thanks for sharing yours!

You have some really neat mods on your Jeep!

Thanks for sharing. That is actually why I am here, trying to get some ideas for mine!

    Lynn,

Thanks for the link! These might actually work great for my application!

The aforementioned quote is why I am here and looking for ideas. I am about to pick up a rear bumper/swing out tire carrier and was looking for some ideas.

My tub is actually steel, and was just cleaned up/filled in before it was painted. The gas tank filler cap was placed too high when the jeep was being built, therefore not allowing enough room for the tail lights above it. Currently my tail lights and license plate are mounted to the rear cross member...which will be covered by the new rear bumper.

Here is a pic of my current setup...

Here is where the gas filler should have been located...

And here is a fiberglass tub that has the filler cap in the correct location and utilizes the factory style tail lights...

Here is a pic I found on this forum, that shows ALL the stuff I am trying to put on the back of the small/narrow CJ5...the spare tire, jerrycans, and cooler rack. Depending on how much room I have on each side of the tire carrier, I may be able to mount the tail lights onto the bumper at each corner...Any other thoughts?

    Thanks all!!
