Has anyone had any experience with body parts from JC Whitney? My frame and running gear are great, but the body is another story. Just wondering about either the fibreglass or steel complete kits (tub, fenders, hood, windshield)

I shy away from everything from Whitney. Never know what you're going to get (usually junk) and in my experience, shipping is slow, and customer service is less than good.
    YMMV

I've never really had a bad experience with them personally. No experience with their body kits, probably omix stuff.

It seems every time I order from them I'm disappointed on some level.

Just a comment - my understanding of this is the Omix (and Crown AFAIK) stuff is drop-shipped by Omix-Ada/Rugged Ridge (or Crown) at a standard charge to the retailer. The standard shipping charges are passed on to the consumer by the retailer. You can choose among dozens of retailers and the merchandise, execution of the shipping, and shipping charges will be the same ... but the retail price will vary some depending on the retailer. So choose a retailer based on price, retailer's Jeep knowledge, support of the hobby, speed of order processing, whatever is important to you. So far I've only bought the Omix stuff from Walck's (on Bill L.'s rec), though Ocanee looks a little cheaper.

Way back about Sept. 06, bought a fiberglass tub and fiberglass fenders from them. The fenders are fine, the tub took some work. After lots of calls, found out the tubs are made by a guy named Vanderbouch (or something like that) out of Chicago. I have seen the floor pans and body panels. Dont see how they would fit anything!!! Bought a fiberglass hood, twice! Sent them back. They were both broken. Kept the stock hood. Would not buy from them ever ever ever ever again!!!!!!!

I bought a flatty gas tank from them for $100. Paid about $12 for the shipping. When it arrived the neck was flat. At the time they would only do returns by UPS. Here comes the kicker--- Well big brown took me for $42 to ship back the tank. Now I am into the tank for about $54 in shipping and dont have a tank, not to mention two weeks time and all the hassle of dealing with the return. The lady on the phone didnt understand why I was upset with JC and why I didnt want another tank from them.

the first flatty tank i bougt rotted out from the inside in about 2 years. bought a poly tank and just got another one for my cj5 both were just thrown in the box no packing to speak of so the filler necks were poking out through the boxes. They werent damaged but easily could have been. They came from different places and probrobly never met the eyes of the jcwhitney folks but hey its still got their name on it

JC whitney tends to over charge for most of the parts that they sell. Add that to the "custom fit" option for any vehicle and you will be disappointed. I ordered new windshield wipers from them that were a "custom fit" for my CJ and when they got to me they were a 17inch blade. Customer service sent me a return posting and were very friendly. Almost everything they list for older Jeeps comes from another place so if you need anything in a hurry, like I needed a radiator, you will wait a week a best. I prefer to shop Morris 4x4 since it has a parts schematic for just about everything you can think of. They have the best service of anyone I have seen yet. Another really good place to go is Quadratec who's staff knows alot about Jeeps.

Last year bought a rubber front floor mat from them, was supposed to be heavy-duty but it is already dried out, cracking and splitting,, at only a year old and kept in the shade most of the time. Cant remember what I paid for it but Im sure it was too much.

Hey, JC Whitney is really bad. I tried them once when I was broke down in the back country of Montana. They were the only way to get parts for my VW. I was working long hours, seven day a week at a remote location. It took over two weeks for the parts to get there and they were not right for my VW. I was able to make them work long enough to get to a small town with a NAPA. I bought the right parts at NAPA for less then 1/2 what JC Witney charged!

I have not used JC Whitney since then. That was over 30 years ago! Although their costomer service has improved since then. You-all at least got some one on the phone. In my case I would be put on hold & then dropped when I asked to talk with some one about my problems.

Note: The phone was a 4 mile hike from the work site. They left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

I tell folks about their "service" when I am asked about them.

I hope this helps, Matt W.
