Rochester 2g: '71 CJ5 225 V6

    Hi Guys,
    well axels are done and now we are on to the engine. Motor seems strong but I would like to get this thing back to its stock form so onward and upward:)
    Carburetor was changed out to a holley 2barell by PO and i'm in search of the original Rochester 2g. My service manual states with exhaust emissions carb spec is: Rochester 2g 7027082-7041185. I cannot find this carb through my normal sources. After some research I discovered the early Chevrolet trucks came with a 2g, manual choke. Although the model numbers don't match up perfectly I'm thinking this may work. Has anyone been down this road? Or does anyone have a good resource for buying this carb?

    I'm also looking for the original Exhaust manifolds. Anyone wanna trade for my headers?:)

    There are alot of 2G carburetors, several are not the correct ones. Try placing a WTB or visit NAPA or Partsamerica, both carry the proper 2G.

    Place a WTB ad here. Also, if you're lookiing to trade, please follow our rules and use the classifieds. The tech section is for Q&A not transactions.

    The 2G off a Chevy truck will be from a V8, and the carb. will be too big. The whole thing is physically bigger...

    I've looked on both Napa's and Kragens web sites for the 2g for the 225, neither list them but I will try and stop in to Napa today and talk to the counter guy. Thanks for the input.
    Sorry for the Faux Pas on the offer to trade headers, when I get to that point I'll be sure to post it in the correct forum.

    Hmm, perhaps I've unintentionally misled you. I just checked Partsamerica.com and NAPAonline.com and neither one of them lists the carburetor anymore. :?

    I know I bought one from Partsamerica as have others here and when I did, NAPA also listed the carburetor, albeit for $100 more than Partsamerica. Very odd.

    Sparky, isn't the Holley a better carb?

    And I thought all the 2G's were the same dimensions, am I wrong on that? Was the emmisions carb bigger than the pre-emissions carb?

    Better would be a subjective term IMO. I personally like the 2G.

    There are several different sizes of 2Gs, if you search the forum here you'll find a couple examples where folks got the wrong one.

    I agree with this, in my case. I have a Jeep I can and have modified heavily already. I would like to get this little 5 back to original as close as I can. IMO a well tuned original carb and stock manifolds work very well, I've also read and heard great things about the 2g carb.

    Learn something new every day.

    I just dropped into the H.A.M.B. site (Hokey Assed Message Board) for hot rodding, and the discussion there mentions at least 3 different sizes, depending on if you are running Chevy, Buick or Olds. Did not know that, thought they were all the same.:hurrican::coffee:

    The 231 '75 oddfire car I have has a bigger 2G carb and the base on the manifold is bigger.

    It wouldnt fit on my 225 manifold, suprised me.

    Switch'd out the manifold and carb there on my 225 now but havnt driven it yet.

    I know there is the V8 version which might be even bigger...

    As far as Napa goes when i walk into the one by me they walk away from the computer and get out the books. Some of the older stuff is not in the system any more but they can still order them.

    I wasn't talking about being in the store. Their website had the carburetor listed in their online catalog not so long ago where I could've ordered it myself online. :beer:

    That would probably work but that's not the one. They did have one for a Jeep 225.

    It may well have different linkage on the throttle shaft.
