Hey guys I've been trying to decide what engine to use in my '71 CJ-6 which currently has the factory installed Buick and was wondering what the benefits/ mileage are of this engine i see that it is pretty popular here. Also anyone done VW diesel swaps in their rigs? Thanks

Mine got 17-18mpg with the stock 4.88s, 31x10.50-15s on steel rims, and an NV3550 5-speed. A Warn or Saturn Overdrive would gain similar results.

Engine was stock internals, K&N 7-inch open element air filter, fenderwell headers w/ dual 2.5-inch mufflers, and a DUI HEI distributor.

I'd say keep the Buick. They're great engines.

X3, I've had both, just not both in a Jeep. Keep the 225. It's well suited for this vehicle.

ok well how well does the Buick take fuel injection conversions. Im looking for descent mileage alternative to my dodge daily driver as well as a hunt/river rig.

Do a search here for EFI. The short story is it is difficult at best to put EFI on an odd fire 225.

The constant injection system that came on the '74 bug and rabbit and Dasher would work. Since it's constant velocity, it doesn't care if it is even or odd fire. R)

OOOHHH this is a hard decision. With the 225 is already installed and you do not have to get anymore adapters. I really like the VW deisel and was pondering it for my old samurai. If you did the deisel, it would probably be best to probably run samurai tranny and Tcase with te deisel since i do not beleive there are any covnersion adapters made for the deisel to the T14, unles you use a differnt tranny. With the samurai Tacse you will ahve an offset for the rear axle so you wont have dirveshaft issues.

FI isn't that difficult I don't think. I've considered it myself. But with the stock 2G some members here report getting upper teens for fuel economy.

Holley Projection and Megasquirt both work on the 225.

IIRC the main fuel injection stumbling block with the odd-fire is that the GM TBI computer won't work because of the uneven firing. Most people sourcing junkyard parts take them from the GM TBI systems. That's just the computer that won't work though; you still use the GM throttle body and sensors with the Megasquirt computer. A couple of members here have done it IIRC.

You should be able to find threads about this.
