So iv been reading. Disc brakes are good to have do to rain i guess because water doesnt agree with drum brakes....

i have 11''in drum brakes right now but im being told i should switch by everyone.

What would i be looking forward to in switching? is it easyer to stop?

Disk will stop easier with less effort, less fade and in most cases on these old jeeps in a much straighter line. The will also stop when they are completlery soaked in water or mud. Unless your jeep has been altered, a stock 70 model had 10" drums, 11" drums were not factory until the dana 30 came out on the 1972 model.

Look in the Tech Library(at the top of the screen)there is a write up on a disc brake swap, parts, how too, anything you will need to know.

Your other option is to drill the drums - do a search on it. Lots of discussion. I have Discs on the front for the first time in my life as of this summer. It is nice, but I would not put it as a requirement if you can get the drums to stop good.

Drilled drums are discussed in the tech library as an option as well. As someone else suggested, check the brake section of the technical library.

    Disks
pros: self-wiping, less fade, longer service interval, easier/cheaper to service
cons: higher unsprung weight, incompatible with original wheels

That's aside from the conversion costs and labor

<edit> Another con - no easy way to rig a parking brake (compared to drums, which can be pretty easily activated mechanically).

I knew that discs wouldn't work with original 15" wheels, but how about the 16", I thought the would work?:?

Another pro would be that disks are self adjusting, one of the resolutions to the Jeep changing lanes habit when you have to romp on the brakes in a hurry.

10" brakes should be self adjusting as well. Not like the 9" brakes.

But they need to be properly adjusted, you can't just put them together, bleed and go like disk brakes.

Good point on the self-adjusting 10" drums, after the initial adjustment. Us 9" guys can only dream about that. R) Guess I should have said "no adjusting." :p

A lot of the trails we run in the Spring have water crossings and the discs are a great improvement over the drums when we get back to pavement. Before, I never knew which direction we going to be heading with wet drums when I hit the binders!

Are you running stock or aftermarket rims? Aftermarket rims will clear fine.
