I'd like to put the steering back to the L/H side on my early CJ5 (it has been converted to R/H drive for Thailand) and I would like to ask for some help in sourcing the parts. I would need the bellcrank with mounting bracket and a steering box for starters. Any ideas chaps?

you have any pictures of your jeep up close? Looks interesting. Especially the steering.

As far as sources for the parts, the usual places or a junkyard, most of the parts shouldn't be that hard to come by.

Unfortunately there are no jeeps in junkyards in this vicinity. We're still driving all the junk jeeps in Thailand ! The only s/h spares around are for Japanese type trucks. I may have to fabricate if I cannot get a used bellcrank & bracket from the USA.:(
I will post some pictures in case anybody's interested in seeing a Toyota Turbo Diesel in a CJ5:rofl:

Hello Marisco - I too would like to see the Toyota Diesel conversion.

Parts for the Ross steering should be easy to come by - they are often removed and discarded in favor of Saginaw steering for Jeeps in the USA.

For most of us, shipping to you would be the main barrier. Still, try posting in the classifieds and maybe someone with the parts you need will be willing to help.

You can also try some Jeep wrecking yards in the USA - I know of a couple in California: J&W http://www.jwjeep.com/ says they ship worldwide, as does Scotty's http://www.scottysjeepand4x4.com/ ... won't be cheap though.

Maybe you'd want to convert to Saginaw steering? Lots of GM cars and trucks came with these steering boxes, and I'd think that a steering box with a similar design from a Toyota or Nissan or whatever might be made to work in a similar way.

OIC sorry guess the whole thailand thing evaded me. Man if shipping something like that wasn't such a cost/hassle (with my work/social schedule right now getting to where I can pull one is none existant) I would be more than happy to find one, i will still do some checking with a couple of buddies and see what spare parts everybody has right now, but I am sure shipping is going to kill you....

Yeah post pictures when you get a chance, and defiantly think about a conversion, it is not hard at all to fab in another type of box.

Many thanks to all for all the advice. I particularly like the 'Herm' power solution since I have an injury which is aggravated by the heavy manual steering. The main thing is that I need to get the wheel back on the left in order to make an expedition across Laos and into Vietnam where right hand drive vehicles are illegal.
