That sucks, but maybe not surprising. Lead fumes are potent.

Sorry I don't recall the name of who I used but I think they were located down South Main beyond Sanel's. There is still a Bob Rondeau Radiator, in now listed in Bow. And Merrill's moved out to Northwood. No recent personal experience with either one.

I will just say my 1950 Willys truck radiator was working fine, until they pressure tested it. Then they said it needed a recore. I'm not so sure it wouldn't have kept working. The recore came back twisted, not flat, and it didn't look at all like the original. But oh well... And that was 40 years ago.

Yes. Exploded diagrams, part numbers and common sense just make sense. Don't know how we got to where we are....

Watching this closely. Still trying to get my YS carbs dialed in just right.
Have to give them gas slowly. Getting better all the time. Next time 1967CJ5A comes by to help me, we hope to have them perfectly tuned and adjusted.

Might anyone share the difference between the YS-950 and the YS-637????

I've heard that they're nearly identical....

Dave, I suggest getting in touch with scoutpilot (google search) if there are carb problems that you cannot solve....I cannot personally vouch, but I've heard great things for years. On another note, about 8 years ago, I had a YF-938 which I pulled from a 53 CJ3B which hadn't been registered since the 80's. I swapped it out for a Solex that was in another project and that carb runs to this day. I'm a big Carter fan for sure.

Scoutpilot is the best on those carbs. He has rebuilt one of them for me and I think I still have a few other problems to straighten out, adjustment, tune up and timing wise. I want to understand more about their operation. Got two extra ones on the shelf. I still have a CJ fuel pump on the shelf that he rebuilt for me also. He is a valuable resource. I'm so close to getting these things running perfectly. Once these are sorted out, I still have the 64 CJ to finish.

Put a cheap Solex on the CJ before I started the restoration. I like the Carter YF better.
Got some rebuild kits and I want to get familiar with the operation of these carburetors.
Just to know how to fix them any problems that might arise.

I've heard solex are sensitive to fuel pressure. Nonetheless, I was unable to get that unit working properly and I gave it away. Ugh...

A few years ago an acquaintance asked me to look at a 3B with a solex during the middle of winter. The Jeep would only run on starter fluid. We left, and the Jeep stayed.

@compostwerks I'm glad you decided not to use the CJ radiator and not to recore the a1 radiator.

Nope, the CJ radiator will be treated as a spare for sure!

Back to the tear down and cleaning/scraping:
Parking brake assy. and rear companion flange off.
The seal and flange look great (although I'll replace the seal with double lip). The flange is pretty smooth. I give it an 8/10. My belief is that the seal didn't fail. The bolt holes are tapped all the way through the case and oil leaks through the threads. When I reassemble, I'll use sealer and I do ask you fellas for a recommendation on which to use.

I rummaged around and found some nice parts from a rebuild some years ago.
At the time I may have blasted and got things cleaned up with some paint. The dirty parts from this build will be refreshed so they're ready for the future.

This is a A1 bearing retainer. The CJ5 retainer is much different and does not have provisions for the e-brake bracket.

I believe this is the original seal, National. I will replace this.

I'll save time by using the fresh parts. It's no fun fussing with the parts washer and blaster when it's cold. I found some e-brake shoes. This set is new, wrapped in newspaper dated 2002.

These are used. I'll use these since they've become ridiculously expensive now.

I was going to suggest Willard radiator in Hudson, but hadn't used them in 25 years. They appear to be closed now too.

I'm late to the show, but your jeep is coming along nicely!
