How many distributors/caps does the Jeep Dauntless have?

I’m trying to get my distributor stabbed in but it’s not lining up as I’ve seen in any photos or as I remember from my old Dauntless.

I put the distributor in and had #1 lined up well but the advance looks rotated CWise to far.
Without moving anything I put another cap on and it’s way different orientation.

That above cap I could never rotate #1 to the front as the advance would be into the water hose.

This Engine had a flex-plate attached so maybe it was a Commando?

    Any input is welcome.

My old distributor from a 66 CJ has numbers on the edge.

The one that came with the engine has none. Just some numbers inside where the points mount.

This is what mine looks like. It’s a recent rebuild. My cap might be rotated a little bit more clockwise than yours in the picture, but it looks pretty darn close.

Ayuh,...... When stabbin' the distributor, 5 things have to be aligned,.....
#1 piston needs to be Tdc, Compression stroke,....
The rotor is just short of where you want #1 tower to be,....
If the cap is marked so, #1 tower should be where you want it,.....
The distributor body rotated to where you want it,.....
'n the oil pump drive needs to line up with the drive on the bottom of the distributor shaft,.....

There are two delco dist caps for 225 dauntles o.f. as seen above. One has the number #1 marked tower offset to the left of cap window and the other has Nr#1 directly over the window. They are also different in the tab for the notch in the dist rim. The first picture is what should be normal for the cj5 v6 O.F.

The 1964 Buick manual says to align it like you first photo:
You need to be careful rotating the distributor body on an odd-fire engine. Half of the firing intervals are 90 crank degrees and half are 150 crank degrees. You need to make sure that wherever you rotate it, the #1 cylinder is leading into one of the wider 150 degree intervals on the points cam for the next firing at the #6 cylinder. There are 3 theoretical positions not six like you might think. I say "theorectical" because the vacuum advance may interfere with other stuff in some positions. That's an even bigger issue with bulky HEI distributors where there are only two positions that work.

I think the main concern was how far the vacuum advance was turned into the coolant Z hose. I remember the Advance being more into the fan belts.

There is also a straight 6 cap though I am not sure the tab would line up with the notch in the distributor.
The vacuum advance can point to anywhere there is room as long as the firing order is corrected to number one in relation to the distributor. There is no reason to point the vacuum canister at the fan unless the window access is needed to simplify adjusting the points. The points can be adjusted by removing the cap as was done on distributors that did not have a window.

Actually there were 3 Delco Remy distributors used on Dauntless.

1965-1966 D225 single bore manifold used DR 1110322 distributor with 1057693 (D318) cap and 1932004 (D203 short wire) condenser.

1966-1967 D225 dual bore manifold used DR 1110342 distributor with the 1057693 (D318) cap and 1932004 (D203 short wire) condenser.

1967-1968 D225 dual bore manifold used DR 1110376 distributor with 1967286 (D426) cap and 1967286 (D204 long wire) condenser.

Dad has a 69 and mines a 70. I'm pretty sure mine came with a Delco distributor, and I know dad's did.
